Abstract

Likert scales allow respondents to express the intensity of their attitudes and feelings about a topic. They provide data about qualitative aspects such as attitudes, satisfaction, agreement or likelihood, which makes them perfect for surveys. That sounds great, but complications occur because these data are qualitative at their core. That imposes limitations on the calculations and analyses you can perform. After all, you’re attempting to quantify properties such as satisfaction, but there isn’t a precise measure for it.
