Abstract

Dealing with change is inevitable in quality management systems (QMS). That’s why “change” and “changes” are mentioned more than 30 times in ISO 9001:2015. These terms are becoming even more relevant during the current ISO 9001 update, reaching more than 40 references in ISO/CD 9001.2:2025. These references acknowledge accelerated change as a characteristic of today’s organizational context including changes in needs and expectations of interested parties and a reference to climate change issues. Consequently, ISO/DIS 9000:2025 introduced change and change management as a relevant concept for quality management. According to this draft, a QMS serves to provide the infrastructure for identifying risks and opportunities in organizations.
