Perspective is....tricky: The fine line between seeing problems as person related, or system related

The safety world and quality world are uniquely interlinked. As a former Environmental Health and Safety Leader, I faced similar (human related) challenges to that of my Quality peers. We would routinely swap stories about our frustrations with individuals not adhering to procedure. “If they would just follow the planning!... Exposure to the concepts of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) fundamentally shifted my view of these problems. Join this session for a story of struggle and improvement – a story about a new perspective that conflicted with my world of people, procedures, metrics, deviations, and violations.

Andrea Baker started practicing and teaching Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles while working for one of the largest multinational industrial companies in the world. As an environmental, health and safety leader of manufacturing, assembly and distribution facilities, she worked through the complexity of adopting HOP principles from the ground up. In 2014, she began teaching HOP Fundamentals and Learning Teams around the US and anchoring the concepts in existing operating rhythms. She began extrapolating these strategies to a larger scale, and in 2015 became the HOP Senior Expert for the company's 300+ multi-sector locations in Europe. In 2018, Andrea stepped away from the company to help other organizations on their HOP journey. Andrea has worked with over 90 companies, across 9 industries, in 16 different countries, and has mentored individuals from every region of the globe. Andrea co-authored, Bob's Guide to Operational Learning, and co-hosts a podcast called A HOP Podcast (with no name)”.
